I’m Back: Reintroducing The Mexican Fisherman and the Mission to Live Like José

The spark that reignited it all.

It’s been three years since the last post. Way too long.

Life happened. Hard.
COVID hit. My dad got sick and passed away.
A 20-year marriage ended without warning.
I moved. Changed jobs. Homeschooled elementary school kids.
Started new relationships. Rebuilt.
Curveball after curveball.

And somewhere along the way, I drifted from the core of who I am.

But the story of The Mexican Fisherman—and the simple, powerful philosophy of “Live Like José”—has never left me. It’s not just a story I once told. It’s part of my DNA. It’s the life I strive for: grounded, rich in meaning, rooted in what matters most—family, presence, peace, and purpose.

A few weeks ago, at a concert, I ran into someone I hadn’t seen in years. And there it was—the “Live Like José” sticker on their Jeep. Just three words. But it hit me like a lightning bolt.
I remembered who I was.
I remembered the mission.
I remembered why I started this in the first place.

So I’m back.

Back with clarity. Back with fire.
Back to write, to share, to reconnect, and to help myself and others rediscover a way of living that cuts through the noise and focuses on the good stuff.

This space—MexicanFisherman.com—is about more than just a parable. It’s a mindset. A compass. A reminder that we don’t need to hustle endlessly or chase someone else’s version of success. We need to live intentionally. Fully. Joyfully. Like José.

From here on out, I’m going to write often. I’m going to get real about the journey. The mess, the growth, the beauty. And I’ll be sharing the things that bring me joy—
Family. Friends. Faith. Food. Fashion. Fun.

This is our space now.
To laugh. Reflect. Connect. Celebrate the good life and navigate the hard stuff.

So join me. Comment. Share. Be part of this ride.
We’re done waiting.
It’s time to live like José.

Let’s go.

Steve
